New video presents images of growing student movement
This presentation is a tribute to the combative university students of NY. Inspired by the ferment of the Occupy Movement, NYC students, in their great majority of working class and oppressed backgrounds, have begun to wake up and take to the streets in defense of their rights. As the slogan of the Sandinista Youth movement in Nicaragua in the 1980s says, “Without young people willing to sacrifice, there is no revolution.”
The pictures used are the work of various talented photographers, as listed at the end.
The song is “Así esta la cosa” (“That’s how things are”) by the Nicaraguan group Pancasan. It refers to the student movement in that country, which was at the forefront of the struggle leading to the revolutionary victory in July 1979. The creator reports that the average age of the country was 22 at the time.
