Occupy CUNY at York to ask Senate for support tomorrow

Occupy CUNY at York College has announced plans to ask the York Senate for its official support at tomorrow’s meeting. The recent post on its Facebook page provides the text of the request:

Dear Members of the Senate at York College,

Occupy CUNY unites students, faculty, staff, and administrators at the City University of New York in the cause for accessible public education in the fair and just society. The lofty mission of this rapidly growing organization is free education for the students, academic freedom for the faculty and defense of public education for all.

We have been active on and off campus for the past month, staging a 300-student walkout, conducting a teach-in, taking part in the action day at Foley Square and protesting at Baruch where one of our students was arrested last Monday. There is much more to be done.

We are a CUNY-wide movement that represents the 500,000 members of the CUNY community and we need your support!

We would like to ask you to endorse the following York College Senate resolution:

We members of York College Senate support Occupy CUNY in its goal of free education for the students, academic freedom for the faculty and defense of public education for all.

Thank you

Occupy CUNY at York College
