CLASS MATTERS: ACTIVISM AND CLASS DYNAMICS WORKSHOP

CLASS MATTERS: ACTIVISM AND CLASS DYNAMICS WORKSHOP

10am-6pm Saturday, February 18th, 2012
The CUNY Graduate Center, Room 5414
Preregistration Required
Free and Open to the Public

On Saturday, February 18 #OccupyCUNY will present a daylong workshop examining the critical role of class in all aspects of university life -‐-‐ enrollment, retention, classroom dynamics, social interactions, relationships with peers, mentors, and students. The role of class dynamics in student activism will also be a main focus of the workshop. Training activities will include small group discussions, role-‐ playing and popular-‐education exercises, writing, and reflection.

We hope that this workshop will make the learning environment of The Graduate Center safer and more inclusive, contribute to intellectual creativity, rigor, and expression. Discussions of the issues raised in this workshop will continue and lead to further efforts at education about and organizing around class issues. Workshop participants will be encouraged to initiate class oppression and privilege discussions in their own communities.

The workshop will be facilitated by diversity trainers from Philadelphia’s Training for Change.  Light refreshments will be provided.

Attendance is limited and by preregistration only. You may register by emailing #OccupyCUNY at occupycuny.gc.@gmail.com
