PSC union calls town hall meeting to repeal Pathways gen ed revisions, gets 600 signatures in two hours

Professional Staff Congress (PSC) President Barbara Bowen called for a town hall meeting on Thursday, March 8 from 6:00-8:30 pm
at the Community Church of New York (40 East 35th Street) to repeal the Pathways general education revisions recently approved by the Board of Trustees. In her statement, Bowen noted growing opposition to the proposal across the University:

Opposition to Pathways is surging, as faculty across the University conclude that it is impossible to design a curriculum within the Pathways framework without undermining the quality of education at CUNY. The latest Clarion has coverage of the growing opposition. From every campus, I hear from faculty who wish to step down from Pathways committees, who despair about what Pathways will mean for their students, who are appalled at the academic inadequacies of the Common Core.

The meeting will include faculty governance leaders as well as colleagues representing a range of disciplinary and college perspectives. The PSC’s legal team will also update members on the lawsuit the union has prepared to file against CUNY in response to Pathways. Members are encouraged to sign up here.

Petition campaign

In conjunction with the event, the PSC has begun a petition to repeal Pathways. According to a PSC representative, over 600 members had signed within 2 hours.
